 It was here, in Grape Lane,the young James Cook came in 1746 to become a seaman, and where he lodged when not at sea. It is the same house, built in 1688. The museum and its extensive original collections tell the story of young James, his early years in Whitby, his departure for London and the Royal Navy, and then the Voyages that changed him and the world for ever.
